Layyah also spelt as Leiah is the capital city of Layyah District in Southern Punjab. According to 1998 census, it’s total population is 1121 thousands persons out of which 542 are females and 579 males. Density of population in the district is 178 persons per square km. Percentage break-up of the urban and rura population is 12.8 and 87.2 respectively. Pec (Punjab examination Commission) is an autonomous body established by the Government of Punjab to assess the learning achievements of elementary level students in the Province of Punjab. This system works on the base of feedback provided by 36 districts, which helps in the policy decision making, educational management and improvement in student’s learning.
One of the oldest place which is located in Southern side in Punjab province of Pakistan is Layyah District. From the wild shrub called as Layyan commonly its name has derived. It is the newly founded district .In the past it was included in Mianwali district. This place was ruled by many famous rulers like Kamal khan, Abdun Nabi Sarai, Hmayun Shan and many others. The founder of this place is Kamal khan; it was founded around in 1550. 99% of the total populations are Muslims here. According to 1998 census its total population is about appoximately 1.1 million. 178 persons per square kilometer is the density in the district. Ratio between urban and ruler population is about 87.2 and 12.8 respectively. Zaffar Abbasi Bhatti is the present district officer here.

Layyah is the capital of the district. Bhakkar District is situated on the northern side, Jhang District is on the eastern side and River Indus flows on its western side of it. From east to west side it is 88 Kilometers long and from north to south it is 75 kilometres wide. The land consists of almost barren and sand dunes. Having an altitude of 143 meters above the sea level. Usually summer in this district is extremely hot same in winder this area became too cold. About annual rainfall in the district is 18.7 cm. Most of the Agriculture land of the district has consists of UN cultivated area. Ration between cultivable areas comparatively less which is about 35% and UN cultivable area is 65%. This district is under development still that’s why the Literacy rate of this area is 36.7% which is not good. There are not enough schools and colleges are available in the district that’s why the inhabitant of this area is facing many problems. No university and technical institutes are available yet, Educational department of this area must notice this need and do work more for the improvement of literacy rate by providing best quality of education In the district there are three big government hospitals, seven police stations, 7 railway stations and forty two banks are present here. Total number of metalled road lenght is 869 kilometres. By road and railway links it connected to different parts of the country. Other facilities in the district are there are 7 grid stations and 18 telephone exchanges operating here.

Every year these elementary level examinations are conducted by authorities in the month of February. Punjab Education Commission issues the date sheet in the first week of January along with roll number slips. With the advancement in technology it has opened an IT based window to deal directly with the student’s problems, and provide them efficient solutions online. Now as per government policy, grade 5 and 8 examinations are mandatory for all the students of private / public schools and madaris functioning within the province of Punjab.
